Jane inherited one of my Tower water sculptures in her garden in Islington, which was originally designed by Ruth Marshall. They, then, moved to the South of France and contacted me via Ruth because they loved the Tower and wanted one for their French home.

For some reason – (I don’t normally do this, usually it would be sent via courier with comprehensive instructions on how to install) – I decided to take it there and install in person. I was invited to stay the night.

The clients were delightful. Jane, in a tongue in cheek way, bemoaned the fact that she couldn’t find any sculpture remotely comparable so had to buy one of mine…

The sculpture was duly installed with two very delighted customers (something I don’t normally get to witness), which for me was totally delightful, Guy came over to me when we were all eating supper outside in front of the Sculpture and put his hand on my shoulder and said: “Thank you simon, it’s really beautiful.” I felt very touched. What more can one want from an inanimate object!

Ellen contacted me back in 2016; she was coming up to her 90th birthday and asked me to come over to discuss her buying one of my sculptures. She was utterly delightful; we sat down with a cup of tea and she pulled out one of my brochures from about 1999; “I’ve kept this, Simon, for all these years and now I want to have one of your tower Sculptures, I’ve waited long enough!”

The Sculpture was duly installed by myself and a colleague in her modest Ealing back garden and she invited my partner and I along to her Summer 90th birthday party

It’s this level of interaction with a customer that brings such joy to both them and me.
